Don’t own an air fryer but love all those air fryer recipes you’ve been seeing? Learn how to convert your favorite air fryer recipes to oven recipes with these simple tips and tricks!

IT’S EASY TO MAKE THE CONVERSION

Air fryers are great for cooking crispy, healthy meals with minimal oil. I recently write a post on how to convert oven recipes to air fryer recipes but how do you switch that around? Not everyone has an air fryer or some may just want to use an oven instead. Luckily, it’s easy to convert pretty much any air fryer recipe to oven recipes with a few small adjustments.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO CONVERT FROM AIR FRYER TO OVEN?

There are several reasons why you might want to convert an air fryer recipe to an oven recipe:

  • You don’t have an air fryer.
  • You want to cook a larger quantity of food.
  • You prefer the taste and texture of oven-cooked food.

Whatever your reason, converting an air fryer recipe is simple once you know the basic rules.

How to Convert Air Fryer Recipes to Oven Recipes:

Time needed:5 minutes

Best practices:

  1. Adjust the temperature

First you’ll need to increase the temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit. For example, if the air fryer recipe calls for 375 degrees Fahrenheit, you’ll want to set your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Increase the cooking time

You will need to increase the cooking time by about 20%. For example, if an air fryer recipe says to cook for 10 minutes, you will want to cook for about 12 minutes, then check for doneness and add more cooking time if necessary. Keep an eye on the food as it cooks to ensure it doesn’t burn since ovens are a little different.

  3. Use a wire rack

Air fryers use a wire rack to allow air to circulate around the food, which helps to cook it evenly and to get that crispier texture. You can achieve the same effect in an oven by using a wire rack. Place the wire rack on top of a baking sheet and place the food on the wire rack if you’re looking for extra crispiness.

  4. Flip the food

In an air fryer, the food is cooked evenly on all sides. To achieve the same effect in an oven, you’ll need to flip the food halfway through the cooking time. This will ensure that the food cooks evenly on all sides.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Can I use the same cooking time and temperature for all air fryer recipes?

No, you’ll need to adjust the cooking time and temperature based on the recipe and the type of food you’re cooking.

What is the difference between a convection oven in an air fryer?

They are the same thing! An air fryer is just a small convection oven as it circulates the air around the food in the same way an air fryer does. So if you already have a convection oven, you can really consider it a larger air fryer! You can pretty much use the same temperature and cooking time as any air fryer recipe.

Conclusion:

The basic rule of thumb of converting air fryer recipes to oven recipes will be to increase the temperature by about 25 degrees Fahrenheit and add about 20% to the cooking time. If cooking raw meat, always cook to the FDA recommended internal temperatures.

  5. AWESOME!!! Where have you been all my life?! LOL! I have an Instant Pot with the Air Fryer lid, but I’ve been skipping past all these yummy air fryer recipes because the basket in the Instant Pot for air frying is SOOOO tiny, requiring cooking multiple batches compared to what can be made in a regular air fryer. I think I may even have a small countertop convection oven that may work!!! Thank you so much for this information!
