Townsquare Media's Michigan Radio Shakeup: What's Happening and Why (2025)

Major changes are coming to Michigan radio! Townsquare Media is shaking things up, and here's the scoop on how it's all unfolding.

Townsquare Media is set to transform four of its Michigan stations into simulcasts of Audacy's "97.1 The Ticket" WXYT-FM Detroit. But what does this mean for listeners? Let's dive in.

Firstly, 95.3 WBCK Battle Creek, 1360 WKMI Kalamazoo, and 1240 WJIM/106.9 W295BP Lansing will all adopt "The Ticket" branding, mirroring WXYT-FM. However, there's a catch! Cumulus Media already has a claim on the brand in Grand Rapids with "1340 The Ticket" WJRW/106.1 W291DJ. This means WFGR will rebrand as "Sports Radio 98.7."

Now, let's turn our attention to Lansing. Some of the talk programming currently on WJIM will be shifted to "730 The Game" WVFN, which will then become "Lansing 730," offering a blend of talk and sports content.

But here's where it gets interesting: the on-air talent shuffle. WJIM's morning host, Steve Gruber, will be moving to WVFN. Meanwhile, "Michigan’s Big Show," hosted by Michael Patrick Shiels (currently airing from 9 am to 12 pm), will shift to the afternoon slot, from 3 pm to 6 pm. Tim Staudt's "Staudt on Sports" will move up an hour, broadcasting from 9 am to 12 pm. Current WVFN morning host Matt Sheppard will take the 12 pm to 3 pm slot. The 6 pm to 9 pm hour is yet to be announced. The statewide syndicated "The Huge Show," hosted by Bill Simonson, will move from afternoons to the 9 pm to 12 am slot. Syndicated talk shows like Dave Ramsey and Red Eye Radio will fill the overnight hours, replacing ESPN Radio. WVFN will also continue to be the home for Michigan State University Sports play-by-play.

This is a significant reshuffling of programming. What do you think about these changes? Do you think the new lineups will be a hit? Share your thoughts in the comments! Is this a good move for the stations, or will it alienate listeners?
