Day of the Dead Non-Alcoholic Sangria Recipe - Parties With A Cause (1)

Day of the Dead celebrations are some of my favorite! And a good non-alcoholic sangria is the perfect party beverage for the whole family. As a non drinker I try to find fun ways to serve drinks that don't make adults feel like they are sitting at the kiddie table.

Red Sangria Recipe Ingredients

  • Rooibos Red Tea
  • Orange Juice
  • Pomegranate Juice
  • Sparkling water
  • Agave
  • Cinnamon
  • Fruit of your choice: Apple, Orange, Lime, Lemon, Raspberries, etc.

Get Slicing for Fruity Sangria

You want your slices to be thin and none of the pieces too large so you can actually fit a little drink in your cup! It's also hard to pour when the pieces are large. Part of the fun of sangria is being able to snack on the fruit as you sip. So next time I think I'm going to dice the apples a little smaller and add some raspberries.

Mix the Juices

It's super easy to mix all the juices together. But HOLD OFF on the sparkling water. Since this version is non-alcoholic starting with a base of strong red tea was important to elevate it past a typical punch. My body can't handle caffeine so the rooibos red tea is caffeine free but you can easily substitute black tea here if you'd like an extra kick.

This is where I like to add the cinnamon. You can add a couple cinnamon sticks to steep or sprinkle in some ground cinnamon. I don't mind the spices in my drink but if you want to avoid any grit try the sticks. Also stir in the agave nectar here. Start with 2 Tablespoons if you like your drinks on the sweeter side, cut it in half if you don't.

Add Fruits and Wait

Part of what makes non-alcoholic sangria great is the marriage of all the flavors. Adding the fruit to the pitcher and letting it steep mixes the flavors and adds a lovely citrus zest.

Be careful however not to let it sit too long or the lemon and lime peels will add bitterness instead. I like to put the citrus in last and only let it sit for 15 minutes or so. But I've ruined batches of sangria before so I'm a little paranoid!

Serve Up Your Non-Alcoholic Sangria

If making this non-alcoholic sangria for a crowd you'll want to prepare several pitchers. Then add the San Pellegrino in right before serving so you get a nice sparkle. Test it one last time and add additional agave nectar now if desired.

For intimate gatherings I like to prepare individual glasses with fruit and juices. Then guests can add a splash of San Pellegrino when they arrive and the party is started! For the kids I also found these amazing sugar skull mugs with LIDS to protect my house from this lovely red liquid. Once they've had their liquid, take the lid off and let them eat the fruit. #drinklidsforkids Can I get an amen!?

Day of the Dead Celebration

This festive drink looks so great on a table set for Day of the Dead. These celebrations incorporate lots of colorful flowers and a bounty of really great food.

I didn't always appreciate the beauty of this holy day and thought it was kinda creepy. Until a book by a Mexican author who explained the beautiful traditions of honoring your loved ones that have passed on. After that I embraced Dia de los Muertes and have celebrated ever since. Maybe we can blame that moment for my new found skull obsession! Either way, I hope you love this non-alcoholic sangria recipe as much as we do! And if you make it we'd love to see.

Non-Alcoholic Fruity Red Sangria

Day of the Dead or Fiesta Mocktail

Course: Drinks

Cuisine: Spanish

Keyword: Cinco de Mayo, Day of the Dead, Fiesta, fruity, Mocktail, Non-Alcoholic, Party beverage

Servings: 12 cups

Equipment

  • Glass pitcher

  • Knife with serrated blade

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Red Rooibos Tea strong
  • 3 cups POM Pomegranate Juice
  • 2 cups Simply Orange Juice
  • 1 Apple peeled and diced
  • 1 Orange thin sliced and quartered
  • 1 Lemon thin sliced and halved
  • 1 basket Raspberries fresh
  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon ground or 2 sticks
  • 2 Tbsp Agave Nectar + more to taste
  • 3 cups San Pelligrino Sparkling Water

Instructions

  • Make Rooibos tea, let steep a few extra minutes

  • Add cinnamon to hot tea. Let cool

  • Pour in pomegranate juice

  • Add orange juice

  • Stir in agave nectar. Agave is sweeter than sugar so be careful not to over sweeten. If you do, add a little extra pomegranate juice and sparkling water to dilute it back down a bit.

  • Now add your fruit. Be careful not to let the citrus sit for too long to avoid a bitter flavor. But let the fruit steep and blend all the flavors together

  • Right before serving add the sparkling water and mix lightly

Notes

For individual servings, add fruit to glasses and fill 2/3 up with juice. Then top off with sparkling water as guests are served.

Drape the grapes over the punch bowl or use a few grapes to decorate individual cups when serving. Ladle juice into cups with bits of fruit for guests to enjoy.

Ok, the pomegranate makes it the right color. Clever. I do like mine with wine though 🙂
