It’s the best parts of your favorite lime and mint classic mojito flavors, combined with the creamy joy of sweetened coconut like a piña colada.

Truthfully, I’m not the biggest fan of a piña colada, as much as I love that song. They are just a little too sweet for me! But this co*cktail? It’s perfection, with the perfect mix of sweetened creamy coconut and tart lime.

  • LimesFresh will give you the brightest citrus flavor.
  • Mint–Any kind of mint will do, but spearmint is always a favorite. Or your local garden store may carry a variety called “mojito mint” – always a fun addition!
  • Sweetener– Mojitos need sweetness to balance the limes. Use a simple syrup, white granulated sugar, raw sugar, or sugar cubes.
  • White Rum – Aka blanco rum, silver rum, and light rum, or try a coconut rum as noted below. You can learn more about thebest rum for mojitoshere!
  • Soda Water – Club soda or sparkling water adds a little bubbly to this refreshing co*cktail.

Variations

  • Make Skinny – Substitute diet lemon lime soda for simple syrup and club soda to reduce calories.
  • Less Sweet – Eliminate the simple syrup to make your coconut mojito a touch less sweet.
  • Coconut Rum – Normally I suggest a classic and simple white rum for mojitos. However, in this coconut mojito recipe, coconut rum is perfection!
  • Make a Mojito Float – Simply add a scoop of Lime Sorbet to your co*cktail for the ultimate co*cktail + dessert combo!

Tips

  • Use Fresh Mint– It makes such a difference to the flavor and fragrance! You can find it at your local grocer or better yet, why not grow your own? Learn how to create an indoorhanging herb garden.
  • Use Fresh Limes– For the best possible flavor, you’ve got to use fresh limes! Their natural acidity balances out the fruit and sweeteners perfectly.
  • Shake– A co*cktail shaker can be a fun change. It’s a bit more formal for shaking or stirring your mojito.
  • Balance– Not all mojitos are the same – and that’s great! Experiment with the amount of mint, lime, fruit, rum and sweetener until your mojito is the perfect mix foryou.

Make it Frozen

  1. Muddle– Muddle lime and mint.
  2. Purée– Blend cream of coconut and ice in food processor.
  3. Combine– Add rum, simple syrup or sugar, club soda, and coconut/ice purée.
  4. Add Ice– If you want it slushier, blend more ice and add in.
  5. Garnish– Garnish with lime wedge, and sprig of mint.

Serving Suggestions

  • Rim Glasses– Run a lime wedge along the rim of your glass. To line the glass, dip the edge in a plate filled with white granulated sugar.
  • Garnish –A slice of lime and sprig of mint to garnish makes this co*cktail prettyanddelicious!

How many calories are in a coconut mojito?

This coconut mojito is not exactly a light and healthy co*cktail! It’s meant to be sipped and savored like a dessert, and comes in at just under 500 calories per serving.
However, it’s easy to lighten it up a little! Switch the lime juice, simple syrup and club soda out for a diet lemon lime soda like a skinny mojito and eliminate lots of calories!

What alcohol is best for mojitos?

Traditionally, rum is used for mojitos. Most bartenders will suggest a classic blanco or silver rum.
However, you’re welcome to mix it up! Try a Vodka Mojito, Gin Mojito or Tequila Mojito for a fresh new take on the classic.

Julie’s Tips

  • Use Fresh Mint– It will make all the difference to the flavor of your mojitos.
  • Use Fresh Limes– You can use bottled lime juice, but it won’t approach the flavor of fresh limes.
  • If you don’t have a traditional muddler, that’s okay! Instead of a classic mojito muddler, try using the end of a wooden spoon.
  • Play with the ingredients until you get it exactly as you like it! Try using more or less lime or syrup, etc.
